My career in the state of Michigan focused on the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. The warning letters, fines, training manuals, memos, white papers, and suggested legislative changes I wrote were purposefully sterile, devoid of emotion and life, intended to be legal, informational, or instructional in nature. Now, as a creative novelist, I am learning how to lie effectively. I'm finding it's much harder than throwing words together to issue an administrative fine for water in gasoline or to prepare a request for prosecution. However, being a professional liar is a heck of a lot more fun. |
